The Latest News!! – New Meeting Day

At it's last meeting of 2006, Quirindi Toastmasters decided to change its meeting night from Thursdays to Tuesdays... the first and third Tuesday of every month, meetings commencing at 8:00pm throughout the year.

A significant number of prospective members of the Club had indicated that Thursdays was not an ideal time as it conflicted with other activities in the town and district. Being earlier in the week should also provide more opportunity for members and potential members to take advantage of the many benefits offered by Toastmasters.

See you there!

Guests always welcome!!

Speechcraft course to be conducted

Quirindi Toastmasters Club proposes to conduct a Speechcraft course during 2007. Dates to be advised...

The special two-day course will be conducted with the assistance of senior trainers from Toastmasters NSW district organisation.

Toastmasters clubs throughout the world conduct frequent short courses in public speaking known as Speechcraft specifically designed for people not having the time or desire at the moment to make the full commitment to join a club.

Speechcraft can often serve as an introduction to Toastmasters and, in the Quirindi Club, generous incentives for Speechcrafters to join the club after each course are offered although no prior commitment is necessary.

Participants in Speechcraft, which are generally limited to around 15 per course, learn how to improve their communication skills so that they are better able to talk in front of people.

The course, based on Toastmasters' principles of better thinking, listening and speaking, will include extensive participation and practice of presentation skills, gestures  and body language, networking, meetings and leadership, the role of an emcee including introducing and thanking speakers; preparation and delivery of  formal presentations, constructing a speech with powerful openings and closings; humour, the best use of voice and  language, analytical listening and leadership; the impact of visuals; speaking in praise, the toast, wedding speeches and more.

A “hands-on” program, Speechcraft provides the "how-to" and the practical experience so critical to progress in an atmosphere of professional camaraderie that makes each course a unique learning environment dedicated to personal improvement.

Although designed for beginners in public speaking, participants may have some experience in public speaking and may be seeking “a refresher” or continued training in the art of effective communication.

Participants, who need not have any prior experience, receive a Toastmasters Speechcraft Handbook plus a range of other materials providing provide valuable reference sources after the program is finished.

A variety of assigned short speeches are scheduled through the course to help participants develop competency. Short impromptu speaking sessions are conducted to help participants learn to think on their feet. And after giving a prepared speech, each participant receives a constructive speech evaluation recognising them for their strengths and providing valuable guidance on how future presentations may be improved.

Speechcrafters are often sponsored by businesses and government services and organisations as a highly effective and cost efficient staff training program as good communication skills are so crucial to the work environment these days.

Bookings for the March Speechcraft program, which need to be in by February 9, can be made with Bob Kirchner on 0419 998 386. Bob can also answer any questions potential Speechcrafters may have.

Cost for the course – $105 including all materials and Club membership joining fee if participants decide to join Toastmasters.
